Historic Vote Sets Stage for Utica College's Transition to Full Indpendence

The Utica College Board of Trustees unanimously approved to transition the College to become fully independent from Syracuse University by 2016. This action sets in motion the final steps in a 62 year-long process that began when Syracuse University and community leaders from Utica established the area's first higher educational institution. In 1995, Utica College was granted its own charter from New York State formally separating it from Syracyse University. Recently more than 350 friends, donors, and dignataries gathered at UC not only to mark this historic milestone, but to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the election of Dr. Todd S. Hutton, UC's president, the person widely credited with leading the institution through the most dramatic period of growth and progress in its history.
