Marcia's interest in the land trust mission grew out of her experience as Executive Director of the Eastern New York Chapter of The Nature Conservancy, with 27 preserves in 16 counties at the time, and her personal commitment to environmental protection as a volunteer and supporter. She served on the board of The Environmental Planning Lobby (now Environmental Advocates) for ten years, including two as president, and was a board member for five years of Rensselaer County Environmental Action. She served for several years on her Town Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee.
Marcia has a BA degree in Communication from The Ohio State University. She lives in Rensselaer County in a home she built herself as part of a community of owner-builders.

Albany Law School is the nation's oldest independent school of law and remains one of the finest. Founded in 1851, Albany Law has four major components: the Government Law Center, the preeminent legal and policy research center in New York's capitol; the Albany Law Clinic and Justice Center, an in-house public-interest law firm that provides free legal services to eligible clients; The Institute of Legal Studies, for continuing legal education taught by Law School faculty, as well as respected members of the bench and bar, and the Center for Law and Innovation, which assists research institutions in New York to commercialize their technology in order to support changes in government and policy.
